Arrive Sydney and make your way to your city hotel. Sydney is the oldest settlement in Australia, the economic powerhouse of the nation and the country's capital in everything but name.

Days 4-6 At leisure, Sydney

Most of the major attractions of the city are within easy walking distance; Sydney Opera House, Darling Harbor, Centerpoint Tower, Circular Quay and The Rocks.

Day 7 Drive Sydney to Blue Mountains

Depart along the Great Western Highway towards Penrith, maybe stop at the Australian Wildlife Park, located just off the highway at Australia's Wonderland. Then continue to Katoomba, the heart of the Blue Mountains.

Day 8 Drive Blue Mountains to Hunter Resort

Enjoy the leisurely drive (approximately 4hours); take the back country roads to the Hunter Valley and its fabulous wineries.

Day 9 Drive Hunter Valley to Coffs Harbor

From the Hunter Valley/Pokolbin region, travel north towards Newcastle. Take the Pacific Highway north over the Hunter River. Pass through Taree and Kempsey. Places of interest along this route include the Myall Lakes National Park near Forster, seaside resort towns close to Port Macquarie, and some beautiful coastal scenery at South West Rocks, near Kempsey. Allow a full day for this drive; distance is 320 miles.

Day 10 Drive Coffs Harbor to Byron Bay

At the easternmost point on the Australian mainland, the sun's rays hit Byron before anywhere else. Families love Byron Bay for the beautiful beaches, and surfers flock here for some of the best waves in the world. Distance is approximately 155 miles.

Day 11 Drive Byron Bay to Lamington National Park

Leave the beach behind and journey into the rainforest area of Lamington National Park. Distance is approximately 80 miles.

Day 12 Lamington National Park

The rainforests, the bush walks, the vast array of bird life, waterfalls and spectacular views of the rugged escarpment attract visitors from all over the world. O'Reilly's is the perfect base for those who wish to explore the beauty of the Lamington National Park.

Day 13 Drive Lamington National Park to Brisbane

From O'Reillys, drive to Canungra then via Beenleigh to Brisbane. Beyond Beenleigh, follow the signs to downtown (Route 3). Allow for a 2 hour drive.

Day 14 At leisure, Brisbane

Return the rental car then enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. The South Bank Parklands offer a vibrant atmosphere with parklands, restaurants and cafes.  The Cultural Center, Queensland Art Gallery, Museum and State Library are also close by.
