You will be met on
arrival at Launceston Airport and transferred to the hotel. This afternoon,
join an orientation tour of Launceston, including The Grove, a National Trust
building. Tonight enjoy a welcome drink to meet your fellow traveling
companions
Day 4
Mon St. Helens
A guided tour at Bridestowe Lavender Farm (early December to early February) gets things rolling. We’ll see Legerwood’s WWI memorial carvings, the old tin mining town of Derby and drive through the lush Myrtle Rainforest at Weldborough Pass before we stop at St Helens at lunchtime. This afternoon we take the short coastal drive to Binalong Bay Lookout for spectacular views over the Bay of Fires. Return to the picturesque seaside town of St. Helens for dinner. (B)
Day 5
Tue Freycinet National Park
Breathtaking Freycinet National Park is first up. A guided walk with a National Park Ranger unveils astonishing views. Cape Tourville Lookout will amaze. Onward to historic Richmond, site of Australia’s oldest operational road bridge. This afternoon things get spectacular as we cross the 100 year old Denison Canal and make our way along the impressive cliff-lined coast to Port Arthur. Test your nerve on the optional lantern lit Ghost Tour of Port Arthur. (B)
Day 6
Wed Port Arthur
Visit the Port Arthur Historic Site, Australia’s most
infamous prison during the convict era. Join
a guided walking tour of the grounds and ruins,
followed by a cruise around the Isle of the
Dead to see the final resting places of the convicts
and settlers. This afternoon visit the spectacular
natural coastal formations of Tasman’s
Arch, Devils Kitchen and The Blowhole.
This evening an optional lantern-lit Ghost Tour of the
prison ruins is available.
Day
7 Thu Hobart
Cross Eaglehawk Neck and continue to Richmond
which boasts Australia’s oldest bridge,
built in 1823. Visit the Cadbury Chocolate
factory for a guided tour and tasting
or Sorell Fruit Farm. Free afternoon in Hobart.
Day 8
Fri Huon Valley
Enjoy an orientation tour of Hobart.
Day 9
Sat Russell Falls
Follow the Derwent Valley to Mt. Field National Park
before walking through the rainforest to Russell
Falls. Travel to Lake St. Clair in the Cradle
Mountain-Lake St. Clair National Park. Continue
through the mining township of Queenstown
to Strahan.
Day 10
Sun Gordon River
This morning cruise the reflective waters of the
Gordon River. At Heritage Landing stroll through World
Heritage Listed rainforest.
Day 11
Mon Cradle Mountain
Travel through the mining town of Roseberry into Cradle
Mountain National Park.
Day 12
Tue The Nut – Stanley
This morning wind through the rainforest that encases
Hellyer Gorge State Reserve. Visit the
massive promontory known as The Nut, which
dominates the picturesque fishing village
of Stanley.
Day 13
Wed Sheffield
Travel to Sheffield, where the buildings are adorned
with remarkable wall paintings. Visit
the Ashgrove Farm cheese factory and enjoy
some tastings and a tour. Continue to
Deloraine to meet your Aboriginal host for
the Jahadi Aboriginal Experience. Travel this
afternoon to the lovely riverside city of Launceston.
Day 14
Thu Depart Launceston
Visit Cataract Gorge after breakfast, before your
tour concludes. You will be transferred to
Launceston Airport to connect with your onward flight.
